The Real Cost of Choosing the Wrong Sandals Resort

Main pool view of Sandals Royal Curacao looking out from the main lobby

We hear from clients all the time who spend countless hours researching Sandals resorts before booking. They read the same recycled listicles, scan TripAdvisor reviews, and eventually make a financial decision based on who had the most convincing photos.

The problem is not a lack of information. It is a lack of the right information...

What Nobody Is Telling You:

  1. Which resorts are currently the best value, and which might be considered overpriced for what they deliver right now

  2. Which room categories are worth the upgrade, and when you might want to upgrade to butler level or stick with Club level

  3. How to stack Sandals 777 promotions, when rates shift, and exactly when to make that booking

  4. Which Jamaica resorts are currently closed for renovation, and whether you should wait or book elsewhere now

  5. What our clients wish they had known before they booked. For example... What is the beach situation really like at Sandals Royal Curacao? Insider Tip: Sandals Royal Curacao has a beach but faces another part of the island, so while we love the resort, this is not your traditional beach resort.

Our guide answers all of it. Not from a brochure. Not from a press trip but from 15 years of real bookings, real client feedback, and a team that specializes exclusively in Sandals and Beaches resorts.

If you want the short version, check out our Sandals Resort Match Calculator below or book a free call, and we'll help you get the right answer in 30 minutes or less.

Why Rivage Travel Sandals Resorts Ranking Is Different

Jonathan and Angela from Rivage Travel

Hi! We're Jonathan and Angela, award-winning Sandals Chairman's Royal Club Diamond Elite travel advisors, founders of Rivage Travel and BestCaribbeanResorts.com, recognized by Sandals as their most awarded agency in the United States.

Our rankings reflect what we are actually recommending to clients in April 2026, based on current resort conditions, real pricing patterns, renovation status, and the questions we answer every single week.

What makes this guide different from every other Sandals ranking you will find:

We use a proprietary system called APEX (Automated Pricing Excellence) which is a real-time promotion intelligence platform that tracks Sandals pricing, weekly Sandals 777 promotions, and booking windows across all 17 resorts simultaneously. When a promotion is eligible for your booking with us, we apply it automatically, even after you've already booked. No other Sandals-specialized agency in the United States does this.

Every resort section below includes:

→ Our personal Rivage Travel ranking score

→ Exactly who the resort is best for, and who might want to skip it

→ A specific room category recommendation based on real client experience

→ Current pricing context and what our APEX system is catching right now

→ The honest drawbacks competitors will not mention

→ A direct link to check live availability

One note on methodology: Our rankings are based on the knowledge that comes from a combination of first-hand stays, aggregated feedback from our client base, beach quality, dining depth, room value at each level, and current pricing relative to what the resort actually delivers.

Where our top pick differs from other rankings you have seen, we will tell you exactly why.

Which Sandals Resort Is Right for You? Let's Start Here...

Our interactive ranking and comparison chart below is based on extensive research. We considered client feedback from over 2,500 bookings and our personal travels, and analyzed data from more than 187,000 guest ratings across the top four travel sites (Google, TripAdvisor, Kayak, Expedia).

Before getting into the reviews of the top-rated Sandals locations, our travel quiz will, in less than 30 seconds, bring into focus options for the best Sandals resort based on your preferences.

Let's get started, then contact us so we can make sure every detail is considered.

What's Happening at Sandals in 2026, and What It Means for Your Booking

Arial view of Sandals South Coast

This is the section most other guides are not keeping current. Here is the accurate picture as of April 2026.

Three Jamaica Resorts Are Currently Closed

As part of a $200 million portfolio-wide transformation Sandals calls their "2.0" redesign, three Jamaica properties are closed for renovation following Hurricane Melissa damage and a broader reimagination of the resorts:

Sandals Montego Bay:

Confirmed reopening: December 18, 2026

Jamaica's flagship and most iconic resort. The upcoming Sandals 2.0 redesign includes a complete pool overhaul, a new Buccan restaurant concept that originally debuted at Sandals Saint Vincent featuring family-style island-ingredient dining, and refreshed social spaces. The beachfront setting will retain the largest private beach in Jamaica. Early bookings for the December reopening are open now, and the "Stay More Save More" promotion is currently offering up to $1,000 in booking credit on qualifying stays of 7+ nights.

Sandals Royal Caribbean:

Confirmed reopening: December 18, 2026

This is Montego Bay's luxury overwater bungalow resort and is the only Sandals property with infinity-pool overwater villas. The renovation will include new pool layouts, expanded suite categories, and new dining concepts. If an overwater bungalow at Sandals Royal Caribbean is on your list, we can book now for post-December stays and get in on current pricing before inventory tightens at reopening.

Sandals South Coast:

Confirmed reopening: November 18, 2026

This is Jamaica's most secluded resort, set on a 500-acre nature reserve on the island's quiet south shore. New additions include Butch's Island Chophouse, Blum Coffee Bar, redesigned pools, and enhanced connections to the surrounding landscape. Sandals South Coast reopens first on November 18th, and booking windows for that date are already open.

What This Means for Your Jamaica Booking Right Now

If you are planning a Jamaica trip before November 2026, your current options are:

  • Sandals Ochi — Ocho Rios, the largest Sandals resort, most affordable entry point

  • Sandals Negril — Seven Mile Beach, the best beach in Jamaica

  • Sandals Dunn's River — Ocho Rios, the newest and most modern Jamaica property, opened 2023, featuring Jamaica's Sandals 2.0 debut.

  • Sandals Royal Plantation — Ocho Rios, boutique all-butler resort with 74 rooms

If you are flexible on timing or planning a late 2026 or 2027 Jamaica trip, we've seen some of the drawings and the renovated resorts will be worth the wait. Booking early secures the best room selection and current promotional rates before prices adjust at reopening.

Our current guidance to clients:

If your dates are fixed before November, Sandals Negril or Sandals Dunn's River are two of our top choices in Jamaica right now for most couples. If you have flexibility, we are actively helping clients make early bookings at Sandals South Coast for the November 18 reopening and at Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean for December 18.

1. Sandals Saint Vincent — The Best Overall Sandals Resort for 2026

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 9.7 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Honeymooners and milestone couples who want something genuinely different, secluded, modern, and unlike anything else in the portfolio.

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: First-timers who want a classic Sandals experience close to home, or couples with limited flight flexibility

Sandals Grande St. Lucia

Sandals Saint Vincent is the most exciting resort Sandals has built in a decade. Opened in 2024 on a private cove in Buccament Bay, it is the only property in the portfolio designed with the complete Sandals 2.0 vision from the ground up, and the difference is immediately apparent from the moment you arrive.

The island itself remains genuinely unspoiled: no cruise crowds, minimal to no beach vendors, a volcanic landscape that larger Caribbean destinations simply cannot replicate. Sandals Saint Vincent is that unique.

The dining program is among the best at any Sandals. Eleven restaurants anchored by Buccan, an open-hearth, family-style experience serving authentic Vincentian cuisine that our clients and us, consistently name as the best meal of their trip. Unique to Sandals are the Two-Story Overwater Villas which are the most architecturally impressive room category in the entire portfolio, with rooftop terraces, glass floors, and private plunge pools. If you're comparing overwater options across all four Sandals properties that have them, see our complete overwater bungalow guide. One thing important to note is the overwater villas closest to the resort are not the most private. For our clients who book this room, we've had success at getting the best option and will do it for you!

Scuba diving here ranks among the best at any Sandals resort and it's all included. Best of all, Sandals Saint Vincent has it's own private dock, so you leave directly from the resort.

Now, the one genuine trade-off is access... Non-stop service operates from Miami, Charlotte, New York and seasonally from Atlanta, but most US cities require a connection through Miami. For a 6–7 night stay the journey is more than worth it. For a short trip, we'd recommend Jamaica or the Bahamas, and we will tell you that honestly on a consultation call.

APEX NOTE: Spring shoulder season pricing is a great time to travel. Overwater villa availability is tighter here due to the rebookings that took place between Sandals South Coast and Sandals Royal Caribbean.

Our Room Recommendation:

If you can book this way advance, we highly recommend the Beachfront Butler Villa with Private Pool. It's steps from the sand, fully butler-serviced, and more private than the overwater villas in day-to-day use. For milestone trips: Vincy Overwater Two-Story Villa and request mid-pier rooms for the most privacy with unobstructed ocean views.

Key Considerations:

✓ Most architecturally impressive overwater villas in the Sandals portfolio

✓ One of the top dining program across all 17 resorts. Buccan alone justifies the trip

✗ Limited direct flights from many US cities. Connections add 1–2 hours of travel time

"Amazing support! I was very nervous booking but Jonathan worked with me to create a wonderful surprise anniversary for my husband & I. Details I didn’t even consider, he had already thought of. And questions I had, he was quick to respond to. During the trip he even checked in to see if everything was going well. I couldn’t have been more comfortable or relaxed if I had done it on my own. Definitely looking forward to the next trip with Rivage helping us!"

FAQ's for Visiting Sandals Saint Vincent:

Is Sandals Saint Vincent worth it?

Yes, for the right couple. Sandals Saint Vincent is the newest Sandals resort, opened in 2024 on a private cove in Buccament Bay, and offers the most architecturally impressive overwater villas in the portfolio. The dining program, anchored by the open-hearth Buccan restaurant, is one of the best at any Sandals resort. The trade-off is flight access, most US cities require a connection through Miami. For a 6–7 night stay the journey is absolutely worth it. For a short trip, a Jamaica or Bahamas property might be a better option.

What are the best rooms at Sandals Saint Vincent?

The Vincy Overwater Two-Story Villas are the signature room categories here featuring two levels with a rooftop terrace, glass floor panels, and direct ocean access. For couples who want a more private on-land option, the Beachfront Butler Villa with Private Pool is our top recommendation: steps from the sand with butler-serviced, and a more secluded in day-to-day use than the overwater villas. Request mid-pier villas for the best ocean orientation and avoid villa 4101, which has limited privacy from the chapel and dock area.

Does Sandals Saint Vincent have overwater bungalows?

Yes. Sandals Saint Vincent features the brand's first Two-Story Overwater Villas, which are a step above the overwater bungalows at the Jamaica properties. These two-level structures include a rooftop terrace, private plunge pool, glass floor panels, a Tranquility Soaking Tub, and butler service. They are among the most impressive overwater accommodations in the Caribbean and the primary reason experienced Sandals visitors choose St. Vincent for milestone trips.

2. Sandals Grande St. Lucian — Best Sandals Resort for Beach views, and All-Around Service Excellence

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 9.7 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want the complete Sandals experience, stunning beach, world-class diving, 12 restaurants, and access to three resorts in one stay

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who prioritize a short transfer from the airport or want the newest, most modern property in the portfolio

Sandals Grande Antigua

Sandals Grande St. Lucian holds a 9.7 ranking score for a simple reason, it consistently hits the mark across every category that matters. Over 12,000 TripAdvisor reviews averaging 4.5 stars. Hundreds of bookings from our own client base. Multiple personal stays.

The resort sits on a peninsula on the calm waters of Rodney Bay with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Atlantic on the other, and the panoramic bay views that greet you in the main lobby leads to a very dramatic arrival, in the best possible way. It's breathtaking...

The "Stay at One, Play at Three" exchange program is the feature that separates Sandals Grande St. Lucian from most other properties. Your stay here gives you complete access to Sandals Regency La Toc and Sandals Halcyon Beach via complimentary shuttle, so you get in total 28 restaurants, 11 pools, three beaches, and complimentary greens fees at the Greg Norman-designed Cap Estate golf course.

Not sure which of the three St. Lucia properties is the right fit? Our St. Lucia Sandals resort comparison breaks down exactly how they differ.

For a Sandals Luxury room, Angela and I personally recommend the Tropical Premium Room (room code TPR) as it faces the Caribbean Sea and close to the resort amenities.

For a Club Level room, we recommend beachfront vs. oceanview rooms as they have the best views and for a butler level room category, we love the Rondovals with private plunge pools. That being said if privacy is important, go for one of the beachfront Grande Rondovals as they are the most private options at Sandals Grande St. Lucian.

One detail most people miss:

There is a eucalyptus steam room at the Red Lane Spa accessible to all guests. It's rarely crowded and genuinely worth seeking out!

OK, so lets talk about the honest trade-offs: the 90-minute transfer from Hewanorra International (UVF) is real, and with most flights arriving after 1pm your first day starts late. Rooms facing the Atlantic side have road views rather than sweeping ocean views which is something we always discuss with our clients before booking. And the public park adjacent to the property occasionally hosts evening events that carry noise into the resort. None of these are dealbreakers, but they are details we account for when matching clients to the right room category.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Grande St. Lucian is not the least expensive Sandals resort but there is value relative to its competitor ranking position. Our APEX Promotion Intelligence system regularly identifies 777 savings for our clients particularly on club and luxury level rooms that bring effective per-night rates meaningfully below rack prices.

Our Room Recommendation:

Grande Rondoval Butler Suite with Private Pool offers the best combination of privacy, outdoor space, and resort access to its amenties. Regardless of which room you ultimately go with, book a Caribbean-facing room; avoid Atlantic-side categories unless the rate difference is significant.

Key Considerations:

✓ 9.7 / 10 — our highest-rated resort overall, backed by 12,000+ guest reviews and hundreds of Rivage client bookings

✓ Stay at One, Play at Three. Giving you 28 restaurants and 11 pools across three St. Lucia resorts, all with complimentary golf included

✗ 90-minute airport transfer. One of the longest in the portfolio for most US travelers; budget accordingly and consider a helicopter upgrade or water ferry as a secondary option.

"Jonathan with Rivage Travel did a remarkable job setting up our 45th Wedding Anniversary trip to Sandals Resort in St. Vincent. They even threw in a candlelight dinner and booked our flights. St. Vincent is a beautiful island with wonderful people. The resort is something special. My wife kept referring to it as her Wisteria Lane. Food was fantastic, butler service was great and the spa time was exceptional. Thanks Rivage Travel!"

FAQ's for Visiting Sandals Grande St. Lucian:

Why is Sandals Grande St. Lucian widely considered one of the best Sandals resorts?

Sandals Grande St. Lucian consistently ranks at or near the top of every credible Sandals ranking for one primary reason: it delivers across every category simultaneously. A stunning peninsula setting with 180-degree water views, one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, 12 restaurants plus 28 via the three-resort exchange, overwater bungalows, complimentary golf, and some of the best scuba diving conditions in St. Lucia. Few other resorts in the world pair natural scenery of this calibre with a full-service all-inclusive program

What is the Stay at One, Play at Three program at Sandals Grande St. Lucian?

When you stay at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, you have full access to Sandals Regency La Toc and Sandals Halcyon Beach via the complimentary shuttle. This gives you 28 restaurants, 11 pools, three beaches, and complimentary golf at the Greg Norman-designed Cap Estate Country Club, all included in your rate. The shuttles run frequently and most guests use them at least once to experience a different resort atmosphere during their stay.

How far is Sandals Grande St. Lucian from the airport?

Sandals Grande St. Lucian is approximately 41 miles from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), which translates to roughly a 90-minute transfer by road. Most flights into St. Lucia arrive at UVF. Complimentary transfers are included in your stay. For couples who prefer a faster arrival, helicopter transfers are available at an additional cost, a 15-minute flight that doubles as one of the most scenic arrival experiences in the Caribbean. George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) is closer but has limited direct service from most US cities.

3. Sandals Grenada — Best Sandals Resort for Seclusion and Romance

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 9.2 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Honeymooners and anniversary couples who want a genuinely romantic, relaxed atmosphere with amazing scuba diving and some of the best food in the portfolio

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who want a long white-sand beach, an active social scene, or golf included in their stay

Sandals St Vincent

Sandals Grenada located on Pink Gin Beach, is truly in one of the most naturally beautiful resort settings. One mile from the airport, tucked into a secluded stretch of coastline with surrounding cliffs, curated gardens, and a design that feels more like a boutique hideaway than a large all-inclusive. This is the resort we recommend when couples tell us they want privacy, romance, and atmosphere above everything else. Grenada is also one of our top picks for honeymooners.

If you'd like to see how it compares to the other top options we've outlined this in our best Sandals resort for a honeymoon guide.

The staff here draw more unsolicited praise from our clients than at almost any other Sandals property as the level of personal attention is exceptional, regardless of which room category you're booked in.

The room categories at Sandals Grenada are some of the best, too. SkyPool Suites with private infinity pools, Butler Swim-Up Suites with sunken living rooms, and Rondoval Suites with private pools and hot tubs. The Italian Swim-Up Bi-Level Butler Suite in particular is a room category that has no real equivalent at other Sandals resorts, which makes this resort even more unique.

Dining also hits well above the property's size with10 specialty restaurants covering French, Italian, sushi, and Caribbean, and our clients consistently rank the food here among the best they have had at any Sandals. The scuba diving off Grenada is world-class and is where Jonathan completed his Advanced Open Water certification. If scuba is a priority for your trip, see which Sandals resorts rank best for diving before you decide.

The honest trade-offs are straightforward... The beach at Pink Gin is smaller than Sandals Grande St. Lucian or Sandals Negril. It is beautiful, but couples who want to spend long days on a wide stretch of sand may feel the limitation. There is no golf. And the resort's romantic, relaxed vibe means couples who want a livelier, more social atmosphere will be better served elsewhere in the portfolio (consider Sandals Grande St. Lucian or Sandals Ochi)

Our Room Recommendation:

SkyPool Butler Suite. The private infinity pool with ocean views is one of the most memorable room experiences and is at a price point that remains accessible relative to the overwater villa categories at other resorts.

Key Considerations:

✓ 1 mile from the airport — the shortest transfer of any top Sandals resort, which is a genuine advantage after a long travel day

✓ Staff quality and personal attention consistently rated among the best across all 17 resorts by our client base

✗ Smaller beach than the Jamaica and St. Lucia properties so couples who prioritize beach space should factor this in

FAQ's for Visiting Sandals Grenada

What makes Sandals Grenada special compared to other Sandals resorts?

Sandals Grenada sits on Pink Gin Beach, one of the most naturally beautiful resort settings and just one mile from the airport. It is consistently praised for having the most attentive and personally engaged staff of any Sandals property, and the SkyPool Suites with private infinity pools are among the most distinctive room categories in the brand. The diving off Grenada is world-class. The resort has a romantic, secluded atmosphere that larger Jamaica properties cannot replicate. For couples prioritizing privacy and service quality, Grenada regularly tops our client satisfaction rankings.

Is the beach at Sandals Grenada good?

Sandals Grenada's Pink Gin Beach is beautiful with soft sand, calm water, and a naturally scenic setting, but it is smaller than the beaches at Sandals South Coast, Sandals Grande St. Lucian, or Sandals Grande Antigua. Couples who plan to spend long days walking the beach or want a wide expansive stretch of sand may feel the limitation. For beach-primary couples, we often recommend pairing a Grenada a split stay option with a Sandals St. Lucia resort. That said, the overall resort experience at Grenada consistently outranks those properties for couples who value atmosphere, privacy, and service above beach size.

Does Sandals Grenada have butler service?

Yes. Sandals Grenada offers butler service at the Club and Butler levels. The SkyPool Butler Suites, Rondoval Butler Suites, and Italian Swim-Up Bi-Level Butler Suites are the standout butler-level categories, all featuring pools and 24-hour personalized service. Butler guests at Grenada receive 24/7 in-room dining, pre-arrival preference setting, and reservations management. For couples celebrating a honeymoon or milestone anniversary, the butler experience at Grenada is one of the best in the portfolio relative to its price point.

4. Sandals South Coast — Best Sandals Resort for Overwater Bungalows and Destination Weddings

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 9.1 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Honeymooners and destination wedding couples who want Jamaica's most secluded setting, the best beach on the island, and a freshly renovated overwater bungalow experience

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples with a short trip who cannot absorb a 90-minute airport transfer, or anyone who wants the energy of a lively, social resort

⚠️ Currently closed for renovation — reopening November 18, 2026. Bookings open now.

Sandals Grenada

Sandals South Coast sits on a two-mile stretch of private white sand beach inside a 500-acre nature preserve on Jamaica's quiet southern coast, and that setting alone separates it from every other Sandals Jamaica property.

This is not Montego Bay. There are no surrounding developments, no road noise, no cruise traffic.

What there is: one of the most naturally beautiful resort environments in the Caribbean, a beach our clients consistently describe as one of the best they have experienced at any Sandals, and a staff that genuinely cares about your vacation experience.

As of April, 2026.... Sandals South Coast is currently closed following Hurricane Melissa and will reopen November 18, 2026 as part of Sandals' $200 million Jamaica transformation. The renovation adds Butch's Island Chophouse, Blum Coffee Bar, a redesigned pool, and enhanced landscaping that connects the resort more deliberately to its natural surroundings. During the renovation will be saying goodbye to the main pool tower but what they're doing in it's place will be equally impressive!

The Blue Mahoe Overwater Bungalows, arranged in a heart-shaped pier over the Caribbean, are being completely refreshed, are the most private of the bungalows in Jamaica and will reopen with the resort. The overwater wedding chapel with its glass-floor aisle remains one of the most amazing destination wedding venues, too. We are actively helping couples get in early bookings for November and December ahead of inventory filling up after reopening. So lets connect!

The honest trade-offs are the same ones that have always defined Sandals South Coast. The 90-minute transfer from Montego Bay is long, the resort is spread across a large footprint, which creates the peaceful atmosphere but also means longer walks between your room and the main facilities depending on where you're room is located. And while the beach is exceptional, there can be sea urchins near the shore so be on the lookout when walking above waist level.

APEX NOTE: Sandals South Coast reopening reservations are one of the most popular booking opportunities in our current Sandals calendar. Pre-reopening rates are available now, and our APEX system is monitoring this window closely to see how pricing may change once this brand new resort is open.

Our Room Recommendation:

We love the Blue Mahoe Overwater Butler Villa. It's one of the most private overwater bungalow experience sin Jamaica, with no competing boat traffic and bungalow-only dock access. For couples who want the Sandals South Coast beach with Butler service but without the overwater premium: The Rondoval Suites with in the Starlight Village is a great option to consider. If you're still deciding between Jamaica resorts, our complete Jamaica Sandals comparison covers all seven properties side by side.

Key Considerations:

✓ One of the best beaches of any Jamaica Sandals resort. You get two miles of private beach inside a 500-acre nature preserve with no surrounding developments

✓ One of the most private overwater bungalow settings in Jamaica. Bungalow-only dock access, no boat traffic, heart-shaped pier

✗ 90-minute transfer from Montego Bay airport. This is one the longest drives to a Sandals in Jamaica so it should be a genuine consideration for short stays. We recommend 5 nights at a minimum at Sandals South Coast.

FAQ's for Visiting Sandals South Coast

When does Sandals South Coast reopen in 2026?

Sandals South Coast is confirmed to reopen on November 18, 2026 following a full renovation as part of the $200 million Sandals 2.0 Jamaica transformation program. The renovation adds Butch's Island Chophouse, Blum Coffee Bar, a redesigned pool, and enhanced landscaping. The overwater bungalows and overwater wedding chapel are being fully refreshed. Early bookings for the November 18 reopening are already open and the Stay More Save More promotion is currently stacking up to $1,000 in booking credit on qualifying stays. We are actively helping couples lock in early inventory now.

Does Sandals South Coast have overwater bungalows?

Yes. Sandals South Coast has the most private overwater bungalow experience of any Jamaica Sandals property. The Blue Mahoe Overwater Butler Villas are arranged in a heart-shaped pier over the Caribbean, with only bungalow guests permitted on the dock so no boat traffic or passing resort guests. Each villa features glass floor panels, a Tranquility Soaking Tub, overwater hammock, outdoor shower, and 24-hour butler service. They are currently being renovated and will reopen with the resort on November 18, 2026. We recommend booking early as these sell out fastest after renovation announcements.

How long is the transfer from Montego Bay airport to Sandals South Coast?

The transfer from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay to Sandals South Coast takes approximately 90 minutes. The route travels through the hills of Jamaica's interior before reaching the quiet south shore in Whitehouse. Complimentary transfers are included in your stay. For couples on a short trip of four nights or fewer, the transfer logistics are worth weighing against properties with shorter drive times.

5. Sandals Dunn's River — Newest Sandals Resort in Jamaica

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 9.1 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples and honeymooners who want Jamaica's freshest, most design-forward Sandals 2.0 resort experience with 12 restaurants, complimentary golf, and easy access to Ocho Rios excursions

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who prioritize a wide, sprawling beach or want the quietest, most secluded Jamaica experience, Sandals South Coast might be a better option.

Opened in 2023 following a $230 million ground-up renovation, Sandals Dunn's River is the most modern Sandals property in Jamaica and the one we are currently recommending to clients who want a fresh, design-forward Sandals 2.0 experience.

Recommendation: Sandals Dunn's River is currently our top Jamaica recommendation. To see how it compares to the other six Jamaica properties check out our complete Jamaica Sandals resort guide.

At Sandals Dunn's River, the resort's "wood and water" design theme is not marketing language, waterfalls cascade through resorts grounds, pools flow through the property, and the entire layout draws inspiration from the nearby Dunn's River Falls just five minutes away. At 25 acres it has a boutique footprint relative to Sandals Ochi next door, which means you can find your way around quickly and the beach never feels overwhelming.

The Stay at One, Play at Two exchange with Sandals Ochi expands your dining and pool options significantly when you want options, just jump on the shuttle and enjoy!

The dining program here is the most extensive in Jamaica with12 restaurants covering Latin fusion at Zuka, French at L'Amande, Greek at Edessa, Japanese at Hanami, and the Dunn's Rum Club where you'll get authentic Jamaican craft cocktails and the island's largest rum selection. The Coyaba Sky Rondoval Suites are the standout room category and are among our favorites with rooftop terraces, private plunge pools, a stargazing concierge, and the option for a private rooftop candlelight dinner arranged by your personal butler.

Inside the main section of the resort, the Tufa SkyPool Butler Suites offer cantilevered infinity pools with direct ocean views. Complimentary motorized watersports, waterskiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, are included here, which is not standard across all Sandals properties.

The honest picture: the beach is great and we like the fact that there is a dedicate Butler beach, but its not the primary draw here... It's the pools and dining program are where this resort really shines. Room buildings are multi-story with interior-access hallways rather than the outdoor-access layouts found at Sandals South Coast or Sandals Montego Bay, which some guests find less resort-feeling. And while the dining program is the most varied in Jamaica, a small number of detailed reviewers note that consistency across all 12 restaurants is not uniform as a couple of venues trail the stronger ones (like Edessa over Hanami). The Rum Club and L'Amande French restaurant gets consistent top marks; we advise our clients to book the french restaurant inside the Sandals app 14 days prior to arrival.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Dunn's River sits at a mid-range price point for Jamaica. Priced from $276 per person per night at Sandals level, making it one of the better value propositions for the quality tier it delivers.

Our Room Recommendation:

Coyaba Sky Rondoval Butler Suite. The rooftop terrace, private plunge pool, and stargazing concierge experience is unique to this resort and worth the upgrade for honeymooners and milestone celebrations. Note that the Tufa building pool areas are frequently shaded and might be a little chilly, yet refreshing on a sunny Caribbean day.

Key Considerations:

✓ Most modern resort in Jamaica. Fully rebuilt in 2023, rooms and facilities in near-perfect condition. There are only 2 Sandals luxury level rooms and we recommend them for those who may not be interested in the club-level benefits

✓ 12 restaurants. The largest dining program of any Jamaica Sandals, with complimentary golf and motorized watersports included.

✓ Green fees at Upton Estate are included. If golf is a priority, see our guide to Sandals resorts with complimentary golf to compare all options.

✗ Beach is secondary to the pool experience here and it can be a little windy. Couples whose priority is long days on a great beach will be better served by Sandals Montego Bay or Sandals Negril

FAQ's for Visiting Dunn's River:

Is Sandals Dunn's River the best resort in Jamaica right now?

For most couples traveling to Jamaica in 2026, yes. Sandals Dunn's River is the most modern Jamaica property, having completed a $230 million ground-up renovation in 2023. It offers Jamaica's most diverse dining programme with 12 restaurants, the first-ever Coyaba Sky Rondoval Suites with rooftop terraces, a Rum Club serving authentic Jamaican craft cocktails, complimentary golf at Upton Estate, and Stay at One Play at Two access to Sandals Ochi. With three Jamaica properties still closed for renovation until late 2026, Sandals Dunn's River is our top current recommendation for Jamaica

What is the Coyaba Sky Rondoval at Sandals Dunn's River?

The Coyaba Sky Rondoval Suites are one of our favorite room categories at Sandals Dunn's River and a first for the Sandals. These villa-style suites feature a private rooftop terrace that takes up the entire top level, a private plunge pool, butler service, and a stargazing concierge who arranges rooftop telescope experiences at night. Your butler can set up a private candlelight dinner on the rooftop from any restaurant on property. It is one of the most memorable room experiences and our top recommendation for honeymoon and anniversary couples at this resort.

How close is Sandals Dunn's River to Dunn's River Falls?

Sandals Dunn's River is approximately a 5-minute drive from the world-famous Dunn's River Falls, one of Jamaica's most popular excursions. The resort's name and design are inspired by the falls, with cascading water features throughout the lobby and pool areas. Island Routes operates excursions to the falls directly from the resort. We recommend going early in the morning as the falls become more crowded by mid-morning. The nearby Blue Hole is another highly rated excursion from this location and one we regularly recommend to adventurous clients.

6. Sandals Montego Bay — The Original... Reimagined for 2026.

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 9.0 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want Jamaica's most iconic resort experience with the shortest airport transfer with the best early-booking opportunity in the 2026 calendar

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples traveling before December 2026, or anyone sensitive to occasional aircraft noise from the nearby airport

⚠️ Currently closed — reopening December 18, 2026. Bookings open now.

Sandals Dunns River

Sandals Montego Bay is where it all started. This is the original Sandals resort, opened in 1981, it sits on the largest private beach in Jamaica, a stretch of white sand that has defined what Caribbean all-inclusive luxury looks like for four decades.

It is also the most accessible Sandals resort: 1 mile from Sangster International Airport, roughly five minutes from airport exit to check-in. For couples who want Jamaica without the lengthy or complicated transfer logistics, Sandals Montego Bay and the nearby Sandals Royal Caribbean is the place.

As of April, 2026... Sandals Montego Bay is currently closed for a full Sandals 2.0 rebuild as part of the $200 million Jamaica renovation program.

What is confirmed for the December 18 reopening: a completely redesigned pool with new flow and social spaces, the arrival of Buccan, the open-hearth, family-style dining concept that debuted at St. Vincent and has become one of the most talked-about additions to the Sandals dining program, plus new room categories and updated arrival areas with Caribbean Sea views. The Stay at One, Play at Two exchange with Sandals Royal Caribbean remains intact, giving guests access to 21 restaurants combined across both properties once Sandals Royal Caribbean also reopens December 18. What guests will arrive to is, in Adam Stewart's words, "a blank canvas", a fully reimagined flagship rather than a patched-up original.

The honest pre-renovation picture that still applies to the location: Montego Bay sits minutes from the airport runway, and aircraft noise during daytime takeoffs is there. It lasts roughly 30 seconds per pass and most guests adapt to it quickly, but couples who are light sleepers or sensitive to noise should know this before booking. The beach is exceptional and the exchange program with Sandals Royal Caribbean has historically made this one of the best-value resort pairing. That future dynamic will only strengthened by both properties emerging from renovation simultaneously.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Montego Bay's December 18 reopening aligns with peak season pricing, but early bookings made now get you in on pre-reopening rates with full price protection. Our APEX system is actively monitoring this window. Historically, freshly renovated Sandals 2.0 properties see rate increases within weeks of reopening announcements going live. Clients booking now are getting the best combination of rates and room selection available.

Our Room Recommendation:

We have some insights as to what is happening so confirm with us to make your booking. We are actively tracking the new suite configurations as they are released and will advise clients on which categories represent the best value in the redesigned property.

Not sure whether butler level is worth it at Sandals Montego Bay? Our Club vs. butler guide walks through exactly what you get at each level.

If you're weighing Sandals Montego Bay against the other Jamaica options, our Jamaica Sandals resort comparison covers all seven properties including the reopening timeline.

Key Considerations:

✓ Closest Sandals resort to any airport. Less than 5 minutes from Montego Bay's Sangster International

✓ Jamaica's largest private beach. Unchanged by the renovation and still the defining feature of the property

✗ Aircraft noise is a known characteristic of this location. Daytime takeoffs are audible for approximately 30 seconds; book rooms away from the airport-facing side to minimize impact

FAQ's for Visiting Sandals Montego Bay

When does Sandals Montego Bay reopen in 2026?

Sandals Montego Bay is confirmed to reopen on December 18, 2026 following a complete Sandals 2.0 reimagination as part of the $200 million Jamaica renovation program. The reopening includes a fully redesigned pool, the arrival of Buccan, a new dining concept exclusive to Montego Bay in Jamaica, and a modernized arrival experience. Bookings are open now for stays beginning December 18 and beyond. The Stay More Save More promotion is currently offering up to $1,000 in booking credit on qualifying stays. Early bookings get you the best room selection before inventory tightens at reopening.

How close is Sandals Montego Bay to the airport?

Sandals Montego Bay is approximately 1 mile, roughly a 5-minute transfer from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, making it the closest Sandals resort to any major airport. This proximity is one of the resort's defining advantages, particularly for short trips. The trade-off is occasional aircraft noise during daytime hours, which lasts approximately 30 seconds per pass as planes take off over the bay. Most guests adapt quickly and consider it a minor inconvenience relative to the convenience of the location.

What is the Stay at One, Play at Two program at Sandals Montego Bay?

When you stay at Sandals Montego Bay, you have full access to Sandals Royal Caribbean via complimentary round-trip shuttle. Once both resorts reopen on December 18, 2026 following renovation, this gives guests access to a combined 21 restaurants, multiple pools, and the private island experience at Sandals Royal Caribbean which is all included in the Montego Bay room rate. The shuttle runs frequently between the two properties. Many couples structure their week to spend mornings at the Sandals Montego Bay beach and evenings at the Sandals Royal Caribbean private island for dinner at the Royal Thai restaurant.

7. Sandals Royal Curaçao — Best Sandals Resort for Scuba Diving, Latin Culture, and Something Completely Different

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.9 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want a visually stunning, culturally distinct Sandals experience with world-class diving and one of the most architecturally impressive pools in the portfolio, on an island unlike anywhere else Sandals operates

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples whose primary priority is a long, walkable white-sand beach with calm open-ocean swimming. This resort does not deliver a traditional beach experience

Sandals Royal Barbados overwater bungalows

Sandals Royal Curaçao is the most architecturally distinctive property that Sandals owns, and arguably the most polarising. Let us explain why... Opening in 2022 on the southern Caribbean island of Curaçao, it was designed from the ground up with a Dutch-Caribbean aesthetic that has no equivalent at any other Sandals resort. Cacti, desert landscapes, colorful colonial architecture, and turquoise lagoons sit alongside the property in a way that makes this feel like a totally different destination, not a Sandals formula applied to a new island.

I visited this resort recently for a Sandals Chairman's Royal Club conference and came away considering it one of the most visually impressive properties. The 44-acre grounds are immaculate, the Dos Awa two-level infinity pool is the most stunning pool at any Sandals resort, and the dining program features nine restaurants, three food trucks, and a coffee shop that converts to a wine and cheese bar at 3pm. While not totally Sandals 2.0, it has a creative energy that feels distinctly Sandals 2.0. The $250 Dine Out Credit for Butler guests staying 7+ nights, redeemable at local Curaçao restaurants, is one of our favorite features, that is only offered here and at Sandals Royal Bahamian.

For more on stacking Sandals deals, see our guide to getting the best deal at Sandals.

The diving off Curaçao is world-class, too with coral reef walls, local shipwrecks, and some of the clearest water in the Caribbean. For me and many of those who have been to Curacao, it really is one of the best dive destinations in the Caribbean. Here you get complimentary scuba for certified divers, with up to two dives per day.

The Awa Seaside Butler Bungalows sit right on the water with private infinity pools and beautiful ocean views. These are truly impressive butler-level accommodations and you also get complimentary Mini Coopers are available for exploring the island.

When it comes to getting off the resort, Island Routes excursions to Willemstad's UNESCO-listed waterfront, Klein Curaçao island, and the aloe vera plantation are great considerations.

Here is what you must know before booking: the main beach at Sandals Royal Curaçao faces a channel inlet adjacent to a marina rather than open ocean. There is sand, there is water, and it is beautiful, but open-ocean swimming is limited to a designated lagoon area. Guests expecting a St. Lucia or Saint Vincent beach experience will be caught off guard. This is not a dealbreaker for couples who prioritize pools, diving, and cultural experiences, but it is the single most important factor we disclose to our clients before booking.

APEX NOTE: Curaçao sits at a mid-to-upper price point with 24 room categories featuring many options across budget levels. Our APEX system periodically sees 777 promotions for this resort, too — ask us what is currently active. The $250 Dine Out Credit for Butler guests is an often-missed benefit that meaningfully increases the effective value of butler-level bookings here.

Our Room Recommendation:

Awa Seaside Butler Bungalow with Private Pool. The best room in the resort and one of the best butler-level rooms in the portfolio. Private infinity pool directly on the water, full butler service. If budget is a consideration, the Sunchi Swim-Up Club Level Beachfront Suite gives a great value at a lower price point.

Key Considerations:

✓ The Dos Awa two-level infinity pool is one of the most impressive pools across any of the Sandals resorts, and this is among one of the best scuba diving destinations.

✓ $250 Dine Out Credit for Butler guests staying 7+ nights, lets you experience authentic Curaçao cuisine off-property

✗ The beach faces a channel rather than open ocean so open-water swimming is limited. Couples who want a great beach as their primary experience should choose a different resort. Contact us below and lets make sure you get the right option!

✗ Golf is available but not included with your package at Sandals Royal Curacao.

FAQs About Sandals Royal Curaçao

Is Sandals Royal Curaçao worth it?

Yes, for the right couple. Sandals Royal Curaçao is the most architecturally distinctive property in the Sandals portfolio, with a Dutch-Caribbean design and a two-level Dos Awa infinity pool that is the most visually impressive pool at any Sandals resort. The dining program is creative and the island excursions are exceptional. However, this is not a traditional beach resort as the main swimming area faces a channel rather than open ocean, and couples whose primary priority is a great beach might be disappointed. For couples who prioritize diving, pools, culture, and design, it is outstanding.

Does Sandals Royal Curaçao have a good beach?

This is the most important question to answer before booking. Sandals Royal Curaçao has beach space with soft sand, but the main beach area faces a channel inlet adjacent to a marina rather than open ocean. Open-water swimming is limited to a designated lagoon area. Guests who expect a traditional Caribbean beach with a long, swimmable, facing open sea, will find this property does not deliver that experience. We flag this in every Curaçao consultation. Couples who want a great pool, world-class diving, and a culturally interesting island can overlook this limitation entirely. Others should look at Sandals Negril or Sandals Grande Antigua instead.

What is the $250 Dine Out Credit at Sandals Royal Curaçao?

Sandals Royal Curaçao offers a unique $250 Dine Out Credit for Butler-level guests staying 7 or more nights. This credit is redeemable at local Curaçao restaurants off-property which is a feature that exists at no other Sandals resort. It allows couples to explore the authentic culinary scene in Willemstad, including restaurants along the famous waterfront, while still having all on-resort dining covered by their all-inclusive rate. For food-focused couples considering butler level for a week-long stay, this benefit adds meaningful real-world value to the overall cost calculation.

8. Sandals Regency La Toc — Best Sandals Resort for Dramatic Views and Value in St. Lucia

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.7 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want the full St. Lucia experience. Dramatic bluff-top suites, three-resort access, golf included, all at the most affordable price point of the three St. Lucia properties

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples whose priority is a great swimmable beach with calm water. The beach here is beautiful but small, and the ocean can be rough. Stay here and shuttle to Grande St. Lucian for a great beach day.

Sandals Barbados Beachfront Resort

Set on 220 acres of rolling St. Lucia hillside above a private crescent-shaped cove beach, Sandals Regency La Toc offers some of the most dramatic room views in the entire portfolio.

The Sunset Bluff Butler Villas, perched on the clifftop with retractable glass walls, three-story private decks, zero-entry plunge pools with waterfall and whirlpool, and unobstructed Caribbean Sea views, are among the most impressive accommodations Sandals offers anywhere. They're that good! Our clients who book the bluff categories consistently return telling us the views alone were worth the trip.

The Sunset Bluff Pool, positioned high above the resort, is one of the most romantic pool settings, too. This is also the most affordable of the three St. Lucia Sandals resorts from $263 per person per night, yet through the Stay at One, Play at Three exchange program it gives you complete access to 27 restaurants, 11 pools, and three beaches across Sandals Grande St. Lucian, Sandals Halcyon Beach, and Sandals La Toc itself, plus complimentary golf at the Cap Estate Country Club.

Travel Tip: For a direct comparison of all three St. Lucia Sandals resorts including pricing, beaches, and vibe, see our complete St. Lucia resort comparison guide.

The resort's 220-acre footprint is genuinely large and hilly, and this is both its charm and its most consistent piece of feedback. Golf carts and a frequent internal shuttle handle movement between the bluff suites, the beach, and the main resort facilities. So, you can do the walking or jump on the shuttle with a tasty beverage in tow!

Couples who want everything within easy walking distance should know this upfront and factor it into room category selection... Beachfront or mid-resort rooms in the main building makes things considerably easier. The nine restaurants are spread across the property rather than clustered together, which means you get options but also involves some planning. Armando's restaurant is one of our favorites for both breakfast and dinner so we highly recommend checking it out as well as the newly debuted Buccan.

The beach at Sandals Regency La Toc is a private crescent of sand and genuinely beautiful, but it is small, and the ocean can be rougher than Sandals Grande St. Lucian's calm Rodney Bay. Red flag days limiting watersports do occur.

Our guidance to clients: if beach time is the most important part of your trip, spend your Sandals La Toc days at the resort and use the complimentary shuttle to Sandals Grande St. Lucian for beach days. That option is actually one of the best ways to experience St. Lucia with two completely different resort vibes during the same stay.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Regency La Toc is consistently one of the best value propositions in the St. Lucia cluster. Entry pricing from $263 per person per night with complete three-resort access included. Our APEX system regularly identifies promotional stacking opportunities here, particularly on the bluff and Rondoval categories. Ask us what is currently active.

Our Room Recommendation:

Sunset Bluff Oceanview Butler Villa. The views and privacy are incredible at this resort and justify the butler upgrade. For couples who want value without the bluff location: Oceanfront Two-Story One-Bedroom Villa Suite, centrally located with that amazing ocean sound from every room. Also, check out the Rondoval Butler Villas w/ Private Pool which are part of the rondoval village located in the where the former 9-hole golf course was located.

Key Considerations:

✓ Most affordable St. Lucia Sandals entry point. From $263 per person per night, with identical three-resort exchange access as the pricier Sandals Grande St. Lucian

✓ Sunset Bluff Butler Villas offer the most dramatic room views with absolute privacy.

✓ La Toc is one of three Sandals properties with complimentary golf included. See how they all compare in our Sandals golf resort guide.

✗ Large, hilly resort layout. Couples who want easy walkability should choose mid-resort or beachfront room categories, and expect golf cart assistance to the bluff suites

FAQs About Sandals Regency LaToc

Is Sandals Regency LaToc worth it?

Yes, particularly for couples who want dramatic views and value within the St. Lucia Sandals resorts. Sandals Regnecy La Toc is the most affordable of the three St. Lucia Sandals resorts with prices starting from $263 per person per night, yet provides identical Stay at One, Play at Three access to 28 restaurants, 11 pools, and three beaches across all St. Lucia properties. The Sunset Bluff Butler Villas perched on the clifftop with retractable glass walls and private infinity pools overlooking the Caribbean are among the most impressive accommodations in the portfolio. For couples who prioritize views and value, Sandals La Toc consistently outperforms its price point.

What is the Sunset Bluff at Sandals Regency La Toc?

The Sunset Bluff is an exclusive clifftop retreat within Sandals Regency La Toc featuring some of the most dramatic ocean views in the entire Sandals portfolio. The Sunset Bluff Butler Villas sit perched above the resort with retractable glass walls, three-story private decks, zero-entry plunge pools with waterfall and whirlpool, and panoramic Caribbean Sea views. The Sunset Bluff Pool is a swim-up pool positioned above the resort and is one of the most romantic pool settings at any Sandals property. The suites are located away from the main resort and come with a dedicated golf cart service.

Is Sandals Regency La Toc good for the beach?

Sandals Regency La Toc has a private crescent-shaped cove beach that is genuinely beautiful, but it is small and the water can be rougher than at Sandals Grande St. Lucian's protected Rodney Bay. Red flag days limiting watersports do occur. Our consistent guidance to clients: if beach time is the centerpiece of your La Toc trip, plan shuttle days to Sandals Grande St. Lucian, which has the best swimming, snorkeling, and watersports conditions of the three St. Lucia properties. Sandals La Toc's strength is its views, its bluff suites, and its value, not its beach.

9. Sandals Royal Bahamian — Best Sandals Resort for Short Trips and Ease of Access from the United States

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.7 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want a quick, high-quality Caribbean getaway with the shortest possible flight from the US, a private island experience, and 10 restaurants at a compact, manageable resort

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who want a long walkable beach as their primary experience, or anyone planning to spend all day on the private island. Barefoot Cay closes by late afternoon

Sandals Royal Bahamian Beach

Sandals Royal Bahamian sits on Cable Beach in Nassau, just 15 minutes from the airport, 1 to 3 hours from most US cities, and that accessibility is its single most defining feature.

Sandals Royal Bahamian is one of our top picks for a honeymoon with limited travel time. After reading this review, we recommend checking out our complete list in our best Sandals resort for a honeymoon guide.

For couples with limited vacation time, a long weekend in the Bahamas, or a honeymoon that needs to start the same day as the flight, no other Sandals resort comes close to this level of convenience. The resort's historic pedigree adds to its character. Built on the site of the former Balmoral Club, once favored by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the property carries an storied elegance that has been earned rather than manufactured.

The 25 million dollar, 2022 renovation added swim-up suites, new dining options, the all-new Coconut Grove beachside section. Followed by a full 2025 refresh that brought the rooms and facilities in line with the modern Sandals 2.0 standard. Butler Level guests receive private airport transfers in a Rolls-Royce, one of the few Sandals properties similar to Sandals Royal Barbados, where this is standard.

The standout feature here is Barefoot Cay. Sandals private offshore island, a two-minute boat ride from the main resort with two white-sand beaches, a pool, Red Lane Spa, whirlpool, swim-up bar, hammocks, snorkeling, and the Aralia House seafood restaurant. On a calm clear day this is one of the best experiences to do and offers great snorkeling where you'll see friendly sea turtles.

A few honest details worth knowing before you go: the island boat shuttle runs from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Evening visits are not possible unless you have dinner reservations at Aralia House. One third of the island technically belongs to an adjacent resort, though in practice there is ample space and the Sandals section feels private. Rough weather days can cancel boat service entirely, which on a short trip could be a disappointment but the resort itself makes up for any missed private island experience. The main resort beach is beautiful but compact so it is not a long walkable stretch. The snorkeling off Barefoot Cay is good, if snorkeling matters to your trip, see which Sandals resorts rank best for snorkeling.

The dining program with 10 restaurants... La Plume for French fine dining, Butch's Island Chop House for surf and turf, Kimonos for Japanese teppanyaki, Soy for sushi are all guest favorites. The seven pools across the property allow couples to find their own atmosphere, from the active music pool with DJ and pool volleyball to the quiet pool on the east side.

Speaking of rooms... The East Bay Beachfront Swim-Up Butler Suites are our preferred room category. Here you get direct pool access, a beachfront location, and the butler upgrade is genuinely worthwhile given the resort's compact layout.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Royal Bahamian sits at the higher end of Sandals pricing relative to its size and beach offering with entry villa suites from $499 per person per night. Our APEX system monitors this property closely as promotional windows here can bring effective rates lower. Butler Level bookings for 7+ nights also gets you the private Rolls-Royce transfer, which adds value to your experience. Ask us what is currently being offered on the 777 promo.

Our Room Recommendation:

East Bay Beachfront Swim-Up Butler Suite with beach access and pool access from the patio. It's also the best location on the property for combining beach proximity with butler service convenience.

Key Considerations:

✓ Closest Sandals resort to the US after Jamaica. 1 to 3 hours from most American cities, 15 minutes from Nassau airport. The best choice for short trips and long weekends

✓ Barefoot Cay private island. Two beaches, snorkeling, pool, and seafood restaurant included.

✗ Barefoot Cay closes by late afternoon and boat service cancels in rough weather. On a 3-night stay, losing even one island day could be a disappointment. Factor this into your planning and have a backup plan

✗ Sandals Royal Bahamian can be cool in the winter months. If traveling between January and April, pack a sweater for the evenings and bring a wetsuit for scuba diving.

FAQs About Sandals Royal Bahamian

How close is Sandals Royal Bahamian to the US?

Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau, Bahamas is 1 to 3 hours from most US cities and the closest Sandals resort to American travelers after the Jamaica properties. Nassau is served by direct flights from major US gateways including Miami, New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Boston. The airport transfer from Lynden Pindling International Airport to the resort is approximately 15 minutes. For couples on a tight schedule, a long weekend trip, or anyone who wants Jamaica-like proximity with a Bahamian setting, Royal Bahamian is a great option and for early morning arrivals, the resort prioritizes your rooms.

Is Sandals Royal Bahamian good for a honeymoon?

Yes, particularly for couples who want convenience, a private island experience, and a wide range of room categories without the long flight. The resort is one of 33 room categories including overwater-style bungalows, swim-up suites, and butler villas. The historic property has a regal atmosphere that suits celebratory occasions well. Butler guests receive private Rolls-Royce transfers from the airport. The main limitation is beach size as the on-property beach is beautiful but compact. For honeymoons where beach time is the priority, Sandals Grande Antigua or Sandals Grande St. Lucian may serve better depending on travel time availability.

10. Sandals Negril — Best Sandals Resort for Beach Lovers and West-Facing Sunsets

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.6 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want Jamaica's best beach experience, legendary sunsets, motorized watersports, and the most laid-back atmosphere in the Jamaica portfolio, with complimentary access to Beaches Negril

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who prioritize dining options above everything else, or who want a large resort with an extensive pool infrastructure

Sandals Montego Bay Beachfront Resort

Ask any experienced Sandals traveler which property has the best beach in Jamaica and the answer is almost always the same, Sandals Negril.

Situated on the widest, most pristine stretch of the world-famous Seven Mile Beach, this resort sits close to the water's edge so you're only ever steps away from the warm Caribbean waters. You can see the ocean from every pool, almost every room has a beach or ocean view. And because the resort faces due west, the sunsets here are among the most amazing in the Caribbean, like the kind that stop conversations mid-sentence. If beach time is the centerpiece of your trip rather than a backdrop to it, no Jamaica Sandals delivers more consistently on that promise.

The resort's 12-acre footprint keeps things intimate and navigable in a way that larger Jamaica properties cannot match. It's got more of a boutique feel that we love and what the size trades off in dining options (eight restaurants compared to Dunn's River's twelve), it more than compensates for in atmosphere and beach access.

The Bamboo Grove building houses some of our favorite room categories: Skypool Butler Suites on floors 3 and 4 with private infinity pools and rooftop terraces, and Swim-Up Suites on the lower floors with direct crystal lagoon pool access and ocean views. Motorized watersports — waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing are included here, which is not standard across all Sandals Jamaica properties.

One detail no other ranking page mentions at this level: Sandals Negril guests have access to Beaches Negril, the family-friendly sister resort just along the beach. It is a 25-minute walk along Seven Mile Beach or a five-minute cab ride. The highlight for couples making the trip is Yaku, Beaches Negril's Peruvian specialty restaurant, one of the most distinctive dining concepts in the entire Sandals/Beaches portfolio and worth building an evening around during your stay.

The beach is not private and you will see polite local vendors do operate on Seven Mile Beach and will occasionally approach, but Sandals security patrols the resort section and a polite decline sends most vendors on their way quickly. Truthfully, the vendors on Seven-mile beach add to the experience. While there are plans for a new airport in Negril, the 90-minute airport transfer is the same trade-off as Sandals South Coast and should be factored into short-trip planning. Now, if you do want a short trip to Negril, we highly recommend booking the

APEX NOTE: Negril is consistently one of the best value propositions in the Jamaica portfolio — entry from $226 per person per night — and one of the most stable in terms of pricing. Our APEX system regularly identifies 777 deal windows and promotional stacking opportunities here. Ask us what is currently active before you book.

Now, if you do want a short trip to Negril, we highly recommend booking plane transfers from Montego Bay (MBJ) to Negril (NEG). It takes 15-20 minutes, compared to a 1.5-2 hour drive. Flights land at Negril Aerodrome, typically using Cessna 206 planes and get you to the resort in less than 5 minutes.

Our Room Recommendation:

Bamboo Grove One-Bedroom Skypool Butler Suite. This brand new room category offers a private infinity pool, rooftop terrace, butler service, and beachfront location. Book well in advance as these sell out faster than any other category at this resort. For couples on a tighter budget: Caribbean Beachfront Walkout Club Level Room is just steps from the beach with concierge Club level service at a fraction of the butler price. If you're looking at luxury level accommodations, try to book the Paradise Premium rooms as they're away from the main road.

Key Considerations:

One of the best beaches of any Jamaica Sandals resort. Situated on the widest stretch of Seven Mile Beach, west-facing for unforgettable sunsets, motorized watersports included

Negril has a different personality from Sandals Montego Bay and the Sandals Ocho Rios properties. See how all seven Jamaica resorts compare in our Jamaica Sandals resort guide.

✓ Access to Beaches Negril. A 25-minute leisure walk or 5-minute cab ride along the beach gives you access to Yaku, one of the best dining concepts available in Negril

✓ Sandals Negril is consistently one of our top honeymoon recommendations. See how it ranks against the other top picks in our best Sandals honeymoon resort guide.

✗ Only Eight restaurants. The most limited dining program of the Jamaica properties currently open. Couples who prioritize dining options might want to consider Sandals Dunn's River or Sandals South Coast instead

FAQs About Sandals Negril

Does Sandals Negril have the best beach of any Sandals resort?

Among Jamaica Sandals properties, yes, and many experienced Sandals guests rate it as one of the best beaches across the portfolio. Sandals Negril sits on the widest stretch of the world-famous Seven Mile Beach, with the resort positioned close to the water's edge. The water is calm, clear and warm. The sand is genuinely powdery, and the west-facing orientation delivers some of the most amazing sunsets in the Caribbean. Motorized watersports including waterskiing and wakeboarding are included which is not standard at all Sandals.

Can Sandals Negril guests visit Beaches Negril?

Sandals Negril guests can visit Beaches Negril, the family-friendly Sandals sister resort, via a 25-minute walk along Seven Mile Beach or a 5-minute cab ride. There is no formal exchange program between the two properties, but the proximity makes it easily accessible. The main reason our clients make the trip is Yaku, Beaches Negril's Peruvian specialty restaurant, well worth building an evening around. Note that Beaches Negril is family-friendly and will have children present, unlike any Sandals resort.

How far is Sandals Negril from the airport?

Sandals Negril is approximately 60 miles from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, roughly a 90-minute transfer. Complimentary transfers are included. Unlike the road to Sandals South Coast, the route to Negril is relatively straightforward and although you're going through multiple parishes, its less prone to causing motion sickness. For couples on short 3–4 night trips, the 90-minute transfer each way is worth factoring into planning. Ian Fleming International Airport in Ocho Rios is not relevant for Negril, Montego Bay is the correct airport for this resort.

11. Sandals Royal Barbados — Most Innovative Sandals Resort and Best Two-Resort Experience

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.6 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want Sandals most distinctive amenity lineup. Featuring a rooftop infinity pool, bowling alley, craft beer bar, combined with 21 restaurants across two connected resorts.

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples on a tighter budget seeking entry-level rooms — all rooms here are suites, making it one of the pricier entry points in the portfolio. Sandals Barbados next door offers the same beach and exchange access at lower rates

Sandals Royal Barbados holds more Sandals firsts than any other property in the portfolio. The only resort with a rooftop infinity pool, panoramic Caribbean views from the sixth floor all surrounded by the Sky Bar and the La Parisienne French restaurant.

There is also the first for a Sandals bowling alley with four lanes at Lovers Lane and a 19-tap craft beer bar, another portfolio first. The first gourmet doughnut shop. The first dedicated health and wellness restaurant concept with Heart & Sol serving smoothies, acai bowls, and wraps. That is a lot of firsts! :)

For couples who have stayed at Sandals before and want something totally different, this is where we send them. Having just completed our most recent tour vlog, this resort is a true stand out... Let's explain why...

The Stay at One, Play at Two exchange with Sandals Barbados next door is one of the most best two-resort experiences at Sandals. Connected by a short walkway at both properties, there are a combined 21 restaurants, 11 pools, and access to the shared stretch of Maxwell Beach gives visitors plenty of options across a week-long stay. For a direct side-by-side breakdown, check out our Sandals Barbados vs. Royal Barbados comparison.

The beach itself is good but this is something super important to know... There are increased chances that if you're traveling during the Summer months, that the beach could be filled with Sargassum seaweed which from time to time, can prevent you from entering the ocean.

This happened to us and did it ruin our trip? Not at all... In fact, we used it as an opportunity to get off the resort for the day and visit some of the beach clubs on the west side of the island. Personally, even if the beach is great, still use this time there as an opportunity to see the other side of the island. It's worth it and we go into detail for you in our most recent travel vlog.

Moving onto the rooms... The beachfront Skypool Butler Suites with private infinity pools and the South Seas Royal Rondoval Butler Suites with private pool sanctuaries are among the best butler-level rooms at any Sandals property. Butler guests in these room categories receive Rolls-Royce airport transfers and it's just a 15-minute ride from Grantley Adams International.

The honest picture about the rooms at Sandals Royal Barbados: all rooms at Sandals Royal Barbados are suites with Club or Butler level service, meaning there is no true entry-level Luxury room on this side. If you're weighing Club vs. butler, our Sandals service level guide covers exactly what each level offers delivers.

From $333 per person per night, this is one of the pricier starting points, too. Couples who want the same beach, the same exchange access, and similar amenities at a lower entry price should look at Sandals Barbados next door instead. In the best possible way, it shares everything that matters while offering Luxury-level rooms with more affordable rates.

Back to the beach... The main beach is technically public, and while vendors are present, they are rarely intrusive. Lounge chair availability is the most consistent operational complaint. The top spots go fast, so arriving early matters here more than at most Sandals resorts.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Royal Barbados is routinely offered in the 777 promotional calendar and the Stay More Save More stacking opportunities here frequently bring effective per-night rates well normal price points. The 15-minute airport transfer makes this property particularly attractive for shorter stays as well. Our APEX Promotional Intelligence system monitors this property closely. Contact us for what is currently active.

Our Room Recommendation:

Beachfront Skypool Butler Suite — elevated private infinity pool with ocean views, direct beach proximity, and full butler service. The smoked cocktail menu at the Sky Bar rooftop is a detail worth asking your butler to arrange on arrival evening. For couples managing budget: South Seas Swim-Up Club Level Ultra Suite — modern, direct lagoon pool access, and a fraction of the butler price.

Key Considerations:

✓ More Sandals firsts than any other property — rooftop infinity pool, bowling alley, craft beer bar, gourmet doughnut shop. The most distinctive amenity lineup in the portfolio for couples who have done Sandals before

✓ 21 combined restaurants across two connected resorts with a seamless walkway between them — one of the strongest dining access combinations available

✗ All-suite property with no Luxury-level entry rooms — from $333 per person per night, this is one of the pricier entry points. Couples on a tighter budget get the same beach and exchange access at Sandals Barbados next door for less

FAQs About Sandals Royal Barbados

What makes Sandals Royal Barbados unique among Sandals resorts?

Sandals Royal Barbados holds more Sandals firsts than any other property in the portfolio. It is the only Sandals resort with a rooftop infinity pool, the first with a bowling alley (Lovers Lane, four lanes with a 19-tap craft beer bar), the first with a gourmet doughnut shop, and the first with dedicated health and wellness restaurant concepts. It is an all-suite property meaning every guest is in a Club or Butler level room with no Luxury-level entry tier. Combined with the Stay at One, Play at Two exchange with adjacent Sandals Barbados, guests have access to 21 restaurants total.

Is Sandals Royal Barbados better than Sandals Barbados?

It depends on what matters most to you. Sandals Royal Barbados has newer, more modern rooms, the rooftop pool, the bowling alley, and all-suite accommodations. Sandals Barbados has a slightly lower entry price, Luxury-level rooms, a quieter atmosphere, and the Bombay Club, Sandals' first-ever Indian restaurant. Critically, both properties share the same beach, the same exchange access to 21 restaurants, and a connecting walkway — so guests at either resort can access everything at both. For couples prioritizing modern rooms and unique amenities, choose Sandals Royal Barbados. For better value and quieter atmosphere, choose Sandals Barbados.

Does Sandals Royal Barbados have butler service?

Yes, all rooms at Sandals Royal Barbados are either Club or Butler level, so even entry-level guests receive concierge service and room service. Butler service is available in the SkyPool Butler Suites, Beachfront Prime Minister Suites, South Seas Royal Rondoval Suites, and Millionaire Suites. Butler guests staying in upper tiered room categories receive private Rolls-Royce airport transfers, 24-hour in-room dining, pre-arrival preference setting, and a dedicated butler team throughout their stay. The 15-minute transfer from Grantley Adams International Airport makes the Rolls-Royce arrival one of the more practical luxury inclusions in the portfolio.

12. Sandals Barbados — Best Value Entry Point for the Complete Barbados Experience

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.5 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Value-conscious couples who want the same beach, the same 21-restaurant access, and the same Barbados experience as Royal Barbados next door — at a meaningfully lower entry price, including Luxury-level rooms

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who want the newest, most modern rooms in the portfolio — Sandals Barbados rooms are older than Royal Barbados and some are showing their age

Best Sandals Resort: Sandals Negril Jamaica Resort

The most important thing to understand about Sandals Barbados is what it shares with Sandals Royal Barbados next door; not what separates them.

A short walkway connects both properties, and guests at either resort have complete access to everything across both: 21 restaurants, 11 pools including the Sandals Royal Barbados rooftop infinity pool and Sky Bar, the bowling alley at Lovers Lane, the craft beer bar, and one of the best stretches of Maxwell Beach in Barbados.

Deciding between Sandals Barbados and Royal Barbados next door? Our complete Barbados resort comparison covers the pricing, rooms, and resort differences.

As it relates to dining at Sandals Barbados, the Bombay Club is Sandals first-ever Indian restaurant, and we've caught the General Manager eating there with his wifde, so you know its good! There are also two Butches Chop House restaurants. One is at Sandals Barbados and the other is at Sandals Royal Barbados. Personally, between the two we prefer the one on the Sandals Barbados side. It has a great bar just outside the restaurant and the ambiance feels more upscale.

For our clients who are primarily at the resort to eat, drink, and beach rather than spend time in their room, Sandals Barbados gives you the complete Barbados experience while keeping entry-level pricing accessible, starting from $325 per person per night with Luxury-level rooms available, which Sandals Royal Barbados does not offer.

The resort occupies a genuinely beautiful setting on Maxwell Beach, with mature tropical gardens, winding pathways over lagoon pools, and a beachfront main pool that consistently receives receives great reviews for its atmosphere and chair availability relative to the Royal side. To us, Sandals Barbados has more of the art-deco Miami style vibe which is something we love.

Onto the rooms... There is a lot to choose from and the Crystal Lagoon Swim-Up Suites are a top room category for couples who want easy pool access at a Club level price. The quieter atmosphere on the Barbados side is a feature rather than a flaw for couples who want a relaxed, low-key base from which to explore both properties. We say, use the Royal side for the rooftop and bowling alley evenings then return to the quieter Barbados side for your mornings.

One honest condition flag for 2026: As of April, Sandals Barbados has active renovations underway affecting the main pool area and some room blocks on the beachfront building. Multiple recent guest reviews note construction minor noise starting around 8am. Before booking, ask us which room blocks are currently affected and how to get the right room to avoid the construction zone. This situation is actively improving as the renovation progresses, and the finished product will meaningfully upgrade the property, but it is something worth knowing before you arrive and as your Sandals insider, we want to keep you informed.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Barbados has one of the best value propositions in the portfolio for the access it provides. With rates starting from $325 per person per night with completed access to Sandals Royal Barbados gives you a two-resort experience at a single-resort entry price. Our APEX system regularly identifies promotional windows here through the weekly 777 promo. Contact us today to ask us what is currently active and which room blocks to avoid given current renovation progress.

Our Room Recommendation:

Crystal Lagoon Swim-Up Club Level Suite. This room features direct lagoon pool access, concierge service, and a quiet location away from the main pool construction area. For couples prioritizing the beach above all: Go for the Beachfront Butler Suite which is just steps from the sand with butler service and 24/7 room service included.

Key Considerations:

✓ Same beach, same 21 restaurants, same Sandals Royal Barbados exchange access, all at a lower entry price with Luxury-level rooms available. This is the smartest value play for the complete Barbados experience

✓ Sandals Barbados is one of the more affordable resorts. Check out to see where it ranks among the most affordable Sandals resorts overall.

✓ Bombay Club and Kimonos are two of the most distinctive dining concepts in the Barbados portfolio, both on the Sandals Barbados side

✗ Active renovations in 2026 affecting the main pool area and some room blocks. Confirm current construction status and book away from affected areas before committing

FAQs About Sandals Barbados

Is Sandals Barbados the same as Sandals Royal Barbados?

No, they are two separate resorts connected by a walkway. Sandals Barbados was an existing resort acquired and renovated by Sandals, while Sandals Royal Barbados was purpose-built from the ground up in 2017. The two share the same Maxwell Beach, and guests at either property have full access to both via a short walkway with 21 combined restaurants, 11 pools, and the same stretch of beach. Sandals Barbados is slightly older and more affordable, with Luxury-level rooms available. Sandals Royal Barbados is newer and has the rooftop pool and bowling alley. Many couples choose Sandals Barbados for the savings and treat Sandals Royal Barbados as their daily playground.

Are there renovations happening at Sandals Barbados in 2026?

Yes. As of early 2026, Sandals Barbados has active renovations underway affecting the main pool area and some room blocks. Multiple recent guest reviews note construction noise starting before 8am and minor disruptions around certain pool areas. Before booking, ask us which room blocks are currently affected as this information changes while the renovation progresses and we track it in real time through our APEX system. The renovation is a positive long-term signal as it will modernize a property that some guests have found dated, but the short-term impact on pool access is worth knowing before you arrive.

13. Sandals Grande Antigua — Best Sandals Resort for Beach Purists and Classic Caribbean Charm

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.5 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want Antigua's best beach on Dickenson's Bay, the longest and most beautiful stretch on the island. This is a large, flat, easy-to-navigate resort with a relaxed classic Sandals atmosphere and great dining options

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who want the newest, most modern resort experience. While minor renovations are ongoing, this is one of the older Sandals resorts and shows its age in some room categories and facilities

Best Sandals Resort: Sandals Royal Curacao Beach Resort

Sandals Grande Antigua sits on Dickenson Bay, the most popular beach on an island with 365 of them, and for us and many of our clients that beach is the defining reason to book this resort. It's long, wide, walkable, with consistently calm and crystal-clear water, it is the kind of beach that makes guests wonder why they ever went anywhere else.

Experienced Sandals visitors and repeat clients of ours who have stayed across eight or more properties tell us Antigua's beach is one of the best across Sandals. The resort has operated continuously here since 1993 and carries the character that comes with it. Mature tropical gardens, established pathways, and a sense of place that newer Sandals 2.0 builds are still working to develop. The flat, walkable layout across 27 acres means you can easily move between your room, the pool, the beach, and the restaurants without golf cart logistics which is a practical advantage that larger hillside resorts cannot offer.

Eleven restaurants cover an unusually broad range of dining options for a single-property Sandals. Here you get the brick-oven Bella Napoli for Italian, Kimonos for Japanese teppanyaki, OK Corral for Tex-Mex, Drunken Duck as a British gastro pub, Barefoot by the Sea for grilled lobster and seafood with toes in the sand, and Soy for sushi. The main pool is one of the largest at 15,000 square feet with a swim-up bar and a beach-entry section that many of our clients have singled out as their favorite feature on the property.

Here you get six pools in total across it's vast grounds meaning quiet alternatives are always available. The 7-mile airport transfer is also one of the shortest which means arrival day is pretty easy and not completely lost to travel.

The honest picture: Sandals Grande Antigua is one of the older properties and some room categories reflect that. Certain rooms in the original Caribbean Village section carry dated finishes, thinner walls, and smaller bathrooms relative to newer Sandals builds. Service consistency has been a recurring theme in guest feedback, too with it being great in some departments like in the restaurants, uneven in others like the swim-up bars.

Also, there are also reports of a major future renovation in the pipeline, with new swim-up rooms and resort features, though no confirmed dates have been announced. If that renovation moves forward it will be a meaningfully upgrade to the property, but couples booking now should have realistic expectations about the current room standards relative to Sandals Dunn's River or Sandals St. Vincent. For couples who spend their days on the beach and at the pool rather than in their room, none of this takes away from the experience. For couples who prioritize room quality above all else, the newer resorts higher in our ranking will serve them better.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Grande Antigua sits at one of the most accessible entry price points. From $287 per person per night, and with 25 room categories there are many options across budget levels. Our APEX system regularly identifies promotional windows and 777 deal opportunities here. Contact us today so we can walk you through what is currently available.

Our Room Recommendation:

Mediterranean Club Level Suite. The Mediterranean Village the best ocean views, especially from the 7th floor. Avoid rooms 401–404 in the original Caribbean section. There are no meaningful water views and they have high foot-traffic. The Rondoval Butler Suites offer private plunge pools and the best privacy on property.

Key Considerations:

✓ Dickenson Bay. The longest, most walkable beach of any Sandals resort and consistently cited by experienced Sandals travellers and our clients are one of the best.

✓ Sandals Grande Antigua has one of the more accessible entry price points. See how it compares in our guide to the most affordable Sandals resorts.

✓ Flat, walkable 27-acre layout with 11 restaurants and a 15-minute airport transfer.

✗ One of the older Sandals properties. Some room categories show their age relative to the newer builds. A major renovation is reportedly in the pipeline but no confirmed date has been announced

✗ There are beach vendors present and many have setup shop on the beach. They are polite but it is something to be aware of. Also, when cruise ships are in port, there will be more activity on the beach. The good news is that the beach is long and wide, so there is room for everyone.

FAQs About Sandals Grande Antigua

Is Sandals Grande Antigua a good resort?

Yes, particularly for couples who prioritize a great beach above all else. Sandals Grande Antigua sits on Dickenson Bay, which is consistently rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Long, wide, walkable, with calm clear water and easy chair availability. The resort has 11 restaurants, 6 pools across 27 acres, and a flat layout that makes navigation effortless. It is one of the older Sandals properties and some room categories reflect that, but the entry pricing starts only from $287 per person, per night.

What is the best room at Sandals Grande Antigua?

The Mediterranean expansion is newer and more updated than the original Caribbean Village buildings, and the suite sizes are generous, especially in the 7th floor butler level rooms. For couples who want maximum privacy, the Rondoval Butler Suites offer private plunge pools. Avoid rooms 401–404 in the original Caribbean section as these have limited ocean views and sit on a high-traffic path. Request rooms 301–305 for the best ocean views in the Caribbean Village.

How many restaurants does Sandals Grande Antigua have?

Sandals Grande Antigua has 11 on-site restaurants covering many global cuisines, from Italian at Bella Napoli with brick-oven pizza, Japanese teppanyaki at Kimonos, Tex-Mex at OK Corral, British pub fare at Drunken Duck, grilled lobster and seafood at Barefoot by the Sea, and sushi at Soy, among others. Reservations are recommended for dinner at the specialty restaurants, particularly during peak season so make them on arrival day. There is no additional restaurant exchange program at this property as it is a standalone Sandals in Antigua.

14. Sandals Royal Caribbean — Best Overwater Villa Experience in Jamaica, Reimagined for 2026

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.5 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want the most luxurious overwater bungalow experience in Jamaica, set on a completely private offshore island that is accessed by boat. 10-minute airport transfer, and exchange privileges with Sandals Montego Bay once both reopen on December 18th, 2026.

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples traveling before December 2026, or those who want a large beach as their primary draw. The mainland beach here is modest and the overwater experience is the core product

⚠️ Currently closed — reopening December 18, 2026. Bookings open now.

Best Sandals Resort: Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows

Sandals Royal Caribbean holds a specific distinction that no other resort in Jamaica can offer: the only property with a private offshore island, Sandals Cay - where the overwater bungalows and villas are located. Getting there is a two-minute boat ride from the mainland, and that separation is the entire point.

The overwater bungalows at Sandals Royal Caribbean are arranged in a heart-shaped configuration above the Caribbean, with the five Overwater Villas featuring private infinity pools considered by many of our clients and experienced reviewers to be the finest overwater bungalow experience in the entire Caribbean. Glass floor panels, 24-hour butler service, overwater hammocks, outdoor soaking tubs, and direct staircase access into the sea. The entry-level bungalows start around $3,500 per night; the Overwater Villas with infinity pools approach $4,800 per night for the highest level room category in the Jamaica portfolio.

As of April, 2026 - the resort is currently closed for full Sandals 2.0 makeover reopening December 18, 2026.

What Sandals has confirmed for the reopening: a completely reimagined pool, the arrival of Suppa, a bold new Jamaican flavors restaurant concept, and Parisol Beach Club, a new beachside venue on the private island replacing and elevating the existing island experience.

The Stay at One, Play at Two exchange with Sandals Montego Bay, which reopens the same day gives you access to 21 combined restaurants and all amenities across both properties via complimentary shuttle. Both resorts opening simultaneously on December 18 means the full two-resort experience is available from day one, which has not always been the case during staged reopenings.

Two honest details that belong in any Sandals Royal Caribbean booking conversation: the mainland beach is small and composed of several coves rather than one continuous stretch, so couples whose primary desire is a great beach should consider Sandals Negril or Sandals South Coast instead. And the resort's proximity to the Montego Bay airport runway means periodic aircraft noise during daytime hours, lasting approximately 30 seconds per pass but is less frequent than those staying at Sandals Montego Bay. Neither is a dealbreaker for couples booking specifically for the overwater bungalow and private island experience, but both are worth knowing before arrival.

APEX NOTE: Sandals Royal Caribbean's December 18 reopening coincides with the peak travel season, and the combination of a fresh renovations plus the brand-new Suppa and Parisol Beach Club concepts will create significant early demand. Our APEX system is monitoring pre-reopening booking windows closely. Historically, overwater bungalow inventory at freshly renovated properties tightens faster than any other room category so couples targeting the Overwater Villas for December or January should be booking now.

Our Room Recommendation:

Overwater Private Island Butler Villa with Infinity Pool - OWV. The definitive overwater experience in Jamaica and arguably the finest in the Caribbean. Request villa numbers 4–8 facing directly out to open ocean for best views and maximum privacy. For couples who want the private island experience without the overwater premium: confirm new room category details with us as they are released for the newly reimagined property.

Key Considerations:

✓ The only Sandals resort in Jamaica with a private offshore island featuring the best overwater villas, with private infinity pools available exclusively here

✓ Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals Montego Bay reopen together on December 18. See how they compare to the other five open Jamaica properties in our Jamaica Sandals resort guide.

✓ Sandals Royal Caribbean has two tiers of overwater accommodations. Bungalows and the larger Villas with infinity pools. For a full comparison across all four Sandals overwater properties, see our overwater bungalow guide.

✓ 10-minute airport transfer combined with full Montego Bay exchange access from December 18th.

✗ Mainland beach is small and currently divided into coves rather than one continuous stretch. While we've heard they are making improvements to the beach, as of April 2026, this is an overwater and private island resort, not a traditional beach resort.

FAQs About Sandals Royal Caribbean

When does Sandals Royal Caribbean reopen in 2026?

Sandals Royal Caribbean is confirmed to reopen on December 18, 2026 following a full Sandals 2.0 renovation as part of the $200 million Jamaica renovation program. The reopening includes a completely redesigned pool, a brand-new restaurant called Suppa specializing in Jamaican flavors, and Parisol Beach Club, a new beachside venue on the private island. The overwater bungalows and Overwater Villas with private infinity pools are also being fully refreshed. Bookings are open now for December 18 and beyond. Overwater villa inventory historically moves fastest at renovation reopenings so we recommend booking early.

What is the private island at Sandals Royal Caribbean?

Sandals Island is a private offshore island at Sandals Royal Caribbean, accessible by a two-minute boat ride from the main resort. Pre-renovation, it featured two beaches, a pool, the Royal Thai restaurant, the overwater bungalows and villas, and a bar with resident parrots. Post-renovation, the island will be home to Parisol Beach Club, a new beachside venue, alongside the refreshed overwater accommodations. All guests have access to the island, not just overwater villa guests. The island experience is the defining feature that separates Royal Caribbean from every other Jamaica Sandals property.

Does Sandals Royal Caribbean have the best overwater bungalows in Jamaica?

Yes, specifically the Overwater Villas with private infinity pools, which are considered by many of our clients to be the finest overwater bungalow experience in the entire Caribbean. These five villas are all north-facing for maximum privacy and open-sea views, feature glass floor panels, outdoor soaking tubs, overwater hammocks, and stairs leading directly into the Caribbean. They sit above the private island rather than on a pier attached to the main resort, creating a genuinely secluded experience. They are also the most expensive overwater option in the portfolio at approximately $4,800+ per night, and consistently booked out the fastest.

15. Sandals Ochi — Largest Resort, Most Dining, Best Value in the Portfolio

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.3 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Value-conscious couples who want options. 16 restaurants, complimentary golf, a hidden speakeasy, and the flexibility to choose between social beach club energy or secluded private villas within the same resort

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who want a simple, compact layout where everything is a short walk. At 100+ acres with two distinct areas separated by a public road, Sandals Ochi rewards intentional planning over random room selection

Best Sandals Resort - Sandals Ochi

Sandals Ochi is the largest resort in the Sandals portfolio at 519 rooms across 100+ acres, and that scale is both its greatest strength and the thing most likely to frustrate a couple who books it without understanding how it works.

The resort has two completely distinct personalities. The beachside Riviera Seaside Village is where the energy is.. Here you get the beach club atmosphere, pools with DJ entertainment, live music, multiple restaurants and bars within easy reach of the water. The hillside Butler Village is where the quiet is with private pool villas and secluded gardens. The Romeo and Juliet One-Bedroom Butler Villa Suite with its private pool sanctuary is the room that our team considers one of the best valued butler rooms at around $633 per person per night. Here you get an amazing room with complete privacy.

A shuttle called "The Hop" runs between the two areas every 10 minutes, but couples who want beach energy and book a hillside room, or want seclusion and book beachside, will have a meaningfully different experience than expected.

This is the resort where we spend the most time in pre-booking consultation matching couples to the right area and right room category.

Sixteen restaurants is more than any other Sandals property and the practical benefit is real across a week-long stay as you can eat every dinner at a different restaurant and still have options left. Highlights include Vista Gourmet for seafood, the Rabbit Hole speakeasy tucked into the hillside with a daily password, the Jerk Shack on the beachside, and Southern Table for American comfort food.

Travel Tip: While the Stay at One, Play at Two exchange is available for guests staying at Sandals Dunn's River, it is not available to guests staying at Sandals Ochi. This has to do with capacity constraints given the difference in sizes between the resorts.

Complimentary golf at Upton Estate Golf Club is included. With pricing from $182 per person, per night this makes Sandals Ochi the most affordable Sandals resort as well, and is the most common recommendation we make to budget-conscious couples who want the full Sandals experience without compromising on options.

Sandals Ochi is one of two currently open Jamaica properties with complimentary golf included, if golf is important, we highly recommend you check out our complete breakdown in our Sandals golf resort guide.

The honest picture: The beach at Sandals Ochi is not what you'll get at Sandals Negril. Three beach areas are spread across the property, but none are expansive or amazing by Jamaica standards. Those booking Sandals Ochi for the beach will be underwhelmed. Couples booking it for the dining options, the golf, the active pool scene, and the value at the butler villa level will totally make you happy. The 90-minute transfer from Montego Bay is the standard Jamaica north coast trade-off however, flying into Ian Fleming International (OCJ) in Ocho Rios cuts this to 15 minutes if flights are available from your home city.

Our Room Recommendation:

Butler Village Honeymoon Romeo and Juliet One-Bedroom Villa Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary — completely private courtyard, personal butler, and one of the best value high-end butler experiences in the portfolio. Jonathan and Angela stayed in this exact suite and it is their personal recommendation for honeymoon couples at Ochi. For beachside couples: Riviera Beachfront Butler Suite — direct beach access, butler service, and proximity to the Ochi Beach Club entertainment.

Key Considerations:

✓ 16 restaurants. The most of any Sandals resort, plus complimentary golf and the Rabbit Hole speakeasy. Maximum variety at the most affordable entry price across Sandals from $182 per person, per night

✓ If you have mobility constraints, Sandals Dunn's River would be better suited.

✗ Room choice determines everything at this resort. Couples who book the wrong area for their vacation style will have a fundamentally different experience. This is the one resort where a 10-minute consultation before booking can really make the difference.

FAQs About Sandals Ochi

Is Sandals Ochi the most affordable Sandals resort?

Yes, Sandals Ochi has the lowest entry pricing of any Sandals resort with prices starting from $182 per person per night, making it the most accessible Sandals experience for budget-conscious couples. Despite the entry price, it is the largest resort at 519 rooms across 100 acres with 16 restaurants, the most of any Sandals property featuring complimentary golf at Upton Estate. The value here is great, particularly at the Butler Village level where the Romeo and Juliet Suite with private pool starts around $633 per person per night.

What is the Rabbit Hole at Sandals Ochi?

The Rabbit Hole is a speakeasy-style bar at Sandals Ochi. It is tucked into the hillside and requires a daily password to enter. Ask any resort staff member during the day for the password. Inside, the atmosphere is intimate and creative with craft cocktails and live music that gives it a genuinely different energy from the rest of the resort's entertainment program. It is one of the most talked-about evening experiences and a great reason to choose Sandals Ochi over other Jamaica resorts if nightlife variety is a priority for your trip.

Is Sandals Ochi good for honeymooners?

Yes, with the right room selection. The Butler Village Honeymoon Romeo and Juliet One-Bedroom Villa Suite with Private Pool Sanctuary is a completely private courtyard villa with personal butler service starting around $633 per person per night. The resort's hillside Butler Village section is specifically designed for couples who want seclusion and quiet mornings, while the beachside area offers entertainment and energy when you want it. The key is booking the right area, couples who book a random room at Sandals Ochi without guidance often have a different experience than those who plan their location deliberately.

16. Sandals Halcyon Beach — Best St. Lucia Resort for Privacy, Garden Views, and Three-Resort Access at the Lowest Entry Price

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.2 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want a quiet, intimate St. Lucia base with low-rise gardens, the Caribbean's longest lazy river pool, and complete access to all three St. Lucia Sandals resorts via their free shuttle, all at the lowest entry price of the three.

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who want the most dramatic views, an active nightlife scene, or St. Lucia's best beach. For that, Sandals Grande St. Lucian delivers all three better

Best Sandals Resort - Sandals Halcyon

Sandals Halcyon Beach is the smallest and most intimate resort in the Sandals St. Lucia cluster with only169 rooms, a low-rise French-Caribbean architecture, surrounded by tropical gardens throughout, and a more boutique styled atmosphere. No building on the property rises above the tallest palm, which is completely intentional and a design choice that sets the atmosphere from the moment you arrive.

Couples who have stayed at larger Sandals properties and found them overwhelming consistently tell us Sandals Halcyon felt like a different category of experience. It's quieter, more personal and easier to navigate. The staff know guests by name within a day and the pool areas never feel crowded. Loungers are genuinely available without that pesky 6am reservation mission.

The standout feature of Sandals Halcyon Beach is the 600-foot Crystal Lagoon lazy river pool, which happens to be the Caribbean's longest. It meanders through the Honeymoon Hideaway Village and is a unique amenity not found at either of the other St. Lucia Sandals properties.

When it comes to dining, Kelly's Dockside Over the Water Restaurant, extends 130 feet over Choc Bay on its own pier, and is consistently the most praised dining experience on the resort, so book it early as it fills quickly. The on-site six restaurants are more limited than Sandals Grande St. Lucian's twelve, but the Stay at One, Play at Three exchange with Sandals Grande St. Lucian and Sandals Regency La Toc gives you access to 27 restaurants, 21 bars, and 11 pools via their complimentary shuttle.

The practical strategy most of our clients use: Treat Sandals Halcyon Beach as a peaceful home base, and dedicate one or two shuttle days to Sandals Grande St. Lucian for the beach and watersports. This combination delivers the best of both St. Lucia experiences at Halcyon's lower entry price.

The honest trade-offs: The beach water at Sandals Halcyon Beach is not as clear as Sandals Grande St. Lucian's protected Rodney Bay. The shuttle solves this but requires a 20-minute commitment each way. Some room categories in the original buildings are showing age and have received mixed reviews on condition however, renovations are ongoing and the newer Koko Rondoval Butler Villas and Halcyon Shore House Beachfront Butler Suites represent the resorts current best.

As with most Sandals resorts, the spa team at Sandals Halcyon Beach has been mentioned in multiple reviews and from our clients as proactively soliciting treatment bookings. It does not affect the overall experience but is worth knowing.

Our Room Recommendation:

Club Level Walkout Room with Crystal Lagoon Pool access. This is the best value combination at Sandals Halcyon. Here you get, direct patio access to the lazy river pool, concierge service, and a room location that is more intimate. For couples wanting the premium experience: we recommend the Halcyon Shore House Beachfront Butler Suite with beach access, a private plunge pool, butler service, and is one of the newest room categories on the property.

Key Considerations:

✓ Sandals Halcyon Beach, Sandals Grande St. Lucian, and Sandals La Toc all share the same exchange program. For a direct comparison of all three resorts, check out our complete St. Lucia Sandals resort guide.

✓ Most intimate and walkable resort in the St. Lucia. 169 rooms, low-rise gardens, no crowds, and the Caribbean's longest lazy river pool

Lowest entry price of the three St. Lucia Sandals with the identical Stay at One, Play at Three access to 27 restaurants and 11 pools.

✗ Six on-site restaurants and beach water clarity below Sandals Grande St. Lucian's. Shuttle days to Sandals Grande St. Lucian are practically essential for beach lovers and foodie couples

FAQs About Sandals Ochi

Is Sandals Halcyon Beach the cheapest Sandals resort in St. Lucia?

Yes, Sandals Halcyon Beach is the most affordable of the three St. Lucia Sandals resorts, with entry pricing from around $264 per person per night. Despite being the least expensive, guests receive full Stay at One, Play at Three access to Sandals Grande St. Lucian and Sandals Regency La Toc with 27 restaurants, 21 bars, and 11 pools all connected via a complimentary shuttle. This makes Sandals Halcyon one of the best value plays in the entire Sandals portfolio: the lowest St. Lucia entry price with identical access to everything the cluster offers.

What is the Crystal Lagoon Pool at Sandals Halcyon Beach?

The Crystal Lagoon Pool at Sandals Halcyon Beach is the Caribbean's longest lazy river pool at 600 feet, winding through the Honeymoon Hideaway Village section of the resort. It is the most distinctive pool feature at any of the three St. Lucia Sandals properties and a genuine draw for couples who love a relaxed, pool experience. Club Level Walkout Rooms with direct patio access to the lagoon are our top room recommendation at this resort. The pool is consistently praised for its peaceful atmosphere and easy chair availability compared to busier pool environments at larger Sandals properties.

What is Kelly's Dockside at Sandals Halcyon Beach?

Kelly's Dockside is Sandals Halcyon's signature restaurant, extending 130 feet over Choc Bay on its own pier above the water. It serves Caribbean cuisine in a setting that consistently draws the strongest dining reviews on the property — the combination of fresh seafood, open-air atmosphere, and over-water setting makes it a genuine destination rather than just a hotel restaurant. Book it early upon arrival as it fills quickly, particularly during peak season. It is the one restaurant at Halcyon that we specifically recommend to every client staying at this property, regardless of their dining preferences.

17. Sandals Royal Plantation — The Most Exclusive Sandals Resort. Every Room. Every Guest. Every Time.

Rivage Travel Ranking Score: 8.1 / 10

  • BEST FOR: Couples who want total quiet, complete personalization, and butler service as a standard, not an upgrade. This is the resort for experienced Sandals travellers who have done the big properties and want something categorically different, and for honeymooners who want seclusion above everything else

  • NOT IDEAL FOR: Couples who want a large beach, lots of entertainment, an extensive dining program, or a resort that feels energetic and social. From our perspective, this is deliberately and unapologetically the opposite of all of that

Best Sandals Resort - Sandals Royal Plantation

Sandals Royal Plantation is unlike anything any other Sandals resort and that is precisely the point. Seventy-four rooms. Every single one a butler suite. Every single one ocean view. Every single one positioned on a coral bluff overlooking two private cove beaches on the quiet north coast of Ocho Rios. This is not a version of a large Sandals resort with a butler option.

This is a fundamentally different category of experience, a boutique property where the general manager knows every couple by name, your butler knows your preferred afternoon drink before you ask for it, and the resort runs at a pace that is deliberately and consistently unhurried.

The rebooking rate here exceeds 65%, the highest of any Sandals resort. That number tells you everything about who this resort is for.

The property sits on 10 acres with peacocks roaming the grounds, winding stairs down to the beach, and a champagne and caviar bar that exists at no other Sandals resort.

Daily afternoon tea service, a tradition carried from the property's British colonial heritage, is served on the Tea Terrace with your choice of teas, finger sandwiches, scones, and seasonal treats. Le Papillon, the French dining room, is an elegant breakfast setting and serves dinner with a classical menu that rewards the couples who linger. The Wobbly Peacock pub handles late evenings with Jamaican ales, chicken wings, and the kind of low-key atmosphere that makes it feel like a private members' bar.

Five restaurants is a modest count relative to the larger properties, but the Stay at One Play at Two exchange with Sandals Ochi and Sandals Dunn's River gives you access to a combined 21 restaurants and all their facilities via complimentary shuttle, a 5-minute ride away. Most couples use this once or twice during their stay. Many never bother leaving.

The honest picture: the pool area is genuinely small with a main pool, a spring-fed plunge pool, and a whirlpool, sized for a 74-room boutique property rather than a resort. Couples looking for an active pool scene with entertainment, DJ sets, or swim-up bar social energy will need to look at something else, like Sandals Ochi.

The room décor is classic and intentionally traditional. Think colonial plantation style with four-poster beds and mahogany furnishings, not the modern Sandals 2.0 aesthetic of Sandals St. Vincent or Sandals Dunn's River. Some guests find this charm; others find it dated. Rooms are being updated in phases but the design language will remain faithful to the property's heritage.

The 90-minute transfer from Montego Bay through Ocho Rios is the same commitment required for Sandals Ochi and Sandals Dunn's River which should be a factor on shorter trip planning. And at $271 per person per night, this is the most accessible all-butler entry across Sandals, which makes it a great value play for couples who specifically want that service tier.

Our Room Recommendation:

Royal Sanctuary Grande Luxe Room. The best combination of ocean views, privacy, and value at Sandals Royal Plantation. All butler service included as standard. For groups of couples or a genuinely memorable milestone celebration: go for Villa Plantana, the three-bedroom private villa with its own pool, full staff, and complete seclusion on the East Beach. It has been featured on national television and books out far in advance. It's that good!

Key Considerations:

✓ The only all-butler resort in the Sandals portfolio with 74 suites, every one ocean view, butler service standard for every guest regardless of room category. The highest rebooking rate of any Sandals property at 65%+

✓ Champagne and caviar bar, daily afternoon tea, Le Papillon French dining, and the Wobbly Peacock pub equal four features that exist at no other Sandals resort and define the resorts identity

✓ Sandals Royal Plantation is the only Sandals where butler service is standard for every guest. If you're still deciding whether butler level is worth it, our Club vs. butler guide covers the full comparison

✗ Small pool, five restaurants, limited entertainment, and a quiet atmosphere that is the resort's greatest strength and its most common reason for not being the right fit for couples who want energy, options, and an active scene should book Sandals Ochi or Dunn's River instead

FAQs About Sandals Royal Plantation

Is Sandals Royal Plantation worth it?

For the right couple, absolutely. Sandals Royal Plantation is the only all-butler resort in the Sandals portfolio, all 74 suites include 24-hour butler service, all are ocean view, and the resort operates at a pace and intimacy level that no other Sandals property can match. The rebooking rate of 65%+ is the highest of any Sandals resort and says more about the experience than any review. Entry pricing from $271 per person per night makes it the most affordable all-butler resort. It is not for couples who want energy, variety, and a lively scene, but for those who want quiet and personalized service, it is exceptional.

What is afternoon tea at Sandals Royal Plantation?

Afternoon tea is a daily tradition at Sandals Royal Plantation, a feature unique to this resort and a reflection of its British colonial heritage. Served on the Tea Terrace, it includes your choice of teas selected by flavor and caffeine content, finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and seasonal sweet treats. It typically runs in the mid-afternoon and has become one of the most cherished daily rituals for returning guests. The general manager is known for joining guests at the Tea Terrace and knowing every couple by name, a level of personal engagement that is genuinely rare at any resort brand.

Can Sandals Royal Plantation guests visit other resorts?

Yes. Sandals Royal Plantation guests have full exchange privileges at both Sandals Ochi and Sandals Dunn's River via complimentary shuttle. This gives guests access to 21 combined restaurants, additional pools, the Rabbit Hole speakeasy at Ochi, and the Rum Club at Sandals Dunn's River. Most couples staying at Sandals Royal Plantation use this once or twice during their stay for dining variety. The experience common in our client feedback: they go to Sandals Ochi or Sandals Dunn's River for dinner one evening, appreciate the contrast, and feel grateful to return to the quiet of Royal Plantation for the rest of their stay.

This blog is such a helpful guide for anyone planning a romantic or relaxing getaway in 2025. The detailed ranking of the Sandals Resorts makes it so much easier to choose the perfect destination for a dream vacation. I love how each resort review highlights unique features like beaches, dining options, and activities, which really helps travelers make informed decisions. While reading this, I was also inspired to explore other adventures, and the Glacier National Park Shuttle seems like an amazing way to experience breathtaking natural scenery on a different kind of trip. Your travel quiz is a fun bonus too.
