#1 - Sandals Grande St. Lucia
St. Lucia is a magical island that captivates your mind, body and soul. Here towering mountains and fern-frilled jungles bring about a complete sense of relaxation. At Sandals Grande St. Lucia they build upon that feeling and have created a resort that will give you the ultimate vacation experience. Sandals Grande St. Lucia offers panoramic bay views and exclusivity; best of all it’s on one of the best beaches in the Caribbean and feels more like a secluded island retreat. It offers an endless supply of restaurants, recreation and amenities along with some of the BEST diving you’ll do anywhere in the Caribbean. And with the free inter-Sandals shuttle service, there are up to 27 restaurants and numerous beach options available between the three Sandals resorts in St. Lucia.
One thing to note… because of its unique position, getting to this resort can be a bit bumpy and the transfer time is approximately ninety minutes. If this a concern we recommend a helicopter tour to the George F.L Charles Airport which is only about 15 minutes away from the Grande. Even if you’re comfortable with the drive, this flight to the north is one that you’ll remember for a lifetime!
Why is Sandals Grande St. Lucia our #1 pick for the Best Sandals Resort?
This is a recurring theme and a testament to Sandals as a whole but it’s the people who work at Sandals Grande St. Lucia that make this such an exceptional destination.
The food is excellent and there are twelve restaurants to choose from including our favorite “The Jerk Shack”. The chef is attentive to strict dietary needs and will be more than happy to create a meal plan for any Vegan’s, vegetarians or anyone with allergies.
The rooms are well appointed and the Caribbean beachfront suites have spectacular views of Rodney Bay.
The Red Lane Spa at Sandals Grande St. Lucia is one of the best and it features a rare amenity in that it includes a eucalyptus steam room. All guests have access to this but it’s rarely used so make sure to visit and enjoy this experience!
The main pool hosts a swim up bar and it’s where all the activity takes place. The playmakers are a blast but if you’re looking something more relaxed there are secluded retreats around the resort.
The Beach is beautiful and ocean water is crystal clear. If you’re into snorkeling you can see beautiful fish and coral right around the main pier.
There are plenty of lounge chairs around the pools and on the beach.
The Water Sports Team is amazing and there is so much to do. Including, sailing, scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boards, etc. If you want a lesson, they’re more than happy to oblige.
The Dive Team is exceptional and the diving in St. Lucia is amongst the best. If you’ve ever wanted to see the pitons from the ocean, this is a great way to do that both above water and below.
The bartenders are a lot of fun and will make sure you’re having a great time.
While we think Sandals Grande St. Lucia is the best resort on the island we love getting off the resort and visiting the other properties. As a guest of the Grande, you stay at 1 and play at 3. Best of all there is complimentary shuttle service both to and from Sandals Regency LaToc and Sandals Halcyon.
Additional considerations and tips about Sandals Grande St. Lucia:
The resort transfer takes approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours over windy narrow roads. It is a scenic drive but for those who are prone to car sickness it might be best to consider the helicopter transfer that cuts the transfer time down to about 15 min (plus a short drive to the Grande).
Dinner reservations are required for some restaurants. If you’re in a Club Level room, contact your concierge as soon as you arrive to make your reservations as they tend to fill up quickly. If you are in a butler category, consult with your butler so they can do it for you. Those in the Luxury category, there is a food and dining represented in the main lobby who’ll assist you with this.
All of the beaches in St. Lucia are public so there will be a fair amount of people selling tours but they are not pushy and a friendly "no thank you" is enough to let them know you’re uninterested. If you are interested, there are some good ones include the Simon Says & Joe Knows tour.
Guests are able to walk to the village and to Pigeon Park. You can climb Pigeon Mountain for $7.00. The spectacular views are well worth it. Wear Sneakers!
Sandals Grande St. Lucia Spa and Beach Resort is a great place to relax and get enjoy time together. #2 - Sandals Grande Antigua
Having received the award for “World’s Most Romantic Resort” many times over, this stunning resort sits on the crystalline waters of Dickenson Bay in northwest Antigua. As an adults-only, all-inclusive Sandals Antigua caters to couples looking for a romantic getaway. Guests can choose between a cottage in the original beachfront Caribbean Grove or a suite at the poolside Mediterranean Village. Whichever accommodation you choose, you’ll find well-appointed rooms with mahogany four-poster king-sized beds and flat-screen TVs. Sandals Grande Antigua features seven bars and eleven restaurants, serving everything from pizza at Bella Naploli to Tex-Mex at OK Corral to sushi at Kimonos. For those interested in spa treatments, Sandals' Red Lane Spa offers exceptional massages and body scrubs. If you’re wanting to be active, as with all Sandals resorts you have access to a variety of land and water sports.
Why is Sandals Grande Antigua our #2 pick for the Best Sandals Resort?
The people of Antigua are warm and friendly as are the people who work here. Sandals Grande Antigua does an incredible job bringing the best of the best on site and they make your vacation one you’ll remember for a lifetime.
The General Manager is active and it’s not unusual for him to be commending his staff, chatting with the guests and even picking up glasses.
The food is exceptional and there are eleven restaurants to choose from; all of which are part of the global dining all-inclusive experience.
On the Mediterranean side of Sandals Grande Antigua, the rooms are spacious and have a small balcony overlooking the Caribbean ocean. The bathroom is large with a Jacuzzi bath and a rain forest shower. One thing to note… The Mediterranean Village is set pretty far back from the beach but is only a few minute walk there.
The beach is beautiful but not very wide on the Mediterranean side, Further down towards the Caribbean Village it opens up and there is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy yourself.
Their Water Sports Team is amongst the best within the Sandals Resort brand and will go out of their way to make sure you’re having a safe and amazing time.
The Scuba Diving Team is exception. While Antigua is not necessarily known for their diving it is a fun activity and there are some great spots. One thing to note. Unlike other Sandals Resorts, Sandals Grande Antigua does not have a dock so you do need to wade through the water to get on and off the boat.
There are plenty of day beds around the pools and on the beach.
The Red Lane Spa is exceptional in every way. We love their lavender scalp massages. If you make this your vacation destination, you must give
